I have since written and published a third novel, of the book I created the cover in photoshop.

Deep in the void of space, in an empty star system drifts a Union mining vessel, the De Boer. Within the depths of the ship one crewman, Lieutenant Commander Akhil awakens with a mysterious gunshot wound slowly killing him, a deadly alien threat infesting the decks of the ship, and mysterious figures eliminating the last elements of the crew. Faced with the threats and mysterious lingering on the ship.

I filled the layer black before adding noise, gaussian blur and adjusted the levels to get the stars. Then I rendered a lens flare effect.

I then placed two graident overlays on two more layers with a black to blue and blue to black going in oppsoite directions before lowering the opacity.

Finally I added an eclipse shape with a white stroke and no fill. Then filled in around the Eclipse after rasterizing the shape.
